Human Rights League joined the initiative of 216 European non-governmental organizations who signed a letter addressing Commissioner Johansson (Home Affairs) and Commissioners Schinas (Promoting European Way of Life and Urpilainen (Interna Partnerships). They appeal to the Commissioners to start formal consultations on preparations of Migration and Asylum Pact. Signatory organizations work in the field concerned and regarding their field experience and expert know-how, they claim the necessity of having their voice heard.
Organizations of civil society commonly contribute to preparations of important European documents (e.g. like in 2015 during preparations of European Migration Agenda). Nowadays, in times of forming a new migration and asylum policies, their inclusion to the preparation process of this essential document is necessary. In contrast to negotiations behind closed doors, formal public consultations would be a guarantee of transparency.
